65 Eco Friendly Products – The Ultimate List Of Sustainable Alternatives For Zero Waste Living 20

These days it seems almost impossible to escape plastic – everything is made out of it!

Plastic can take from 500 to 1000 years to start degrading, that means all the plastic ever made still hasn’t even started to degrade.

When plastic finally does start to break down, it is only breaking down into smaller and smaller toxic parts of itself. This then contaminates the environment even further.

  • Each year approximately 500 billion plastic bags are used worldwide, that is more than one million bags being used every minute
  • 50% of plastic used is for single use, then thrown away
  • One million sea birds and 100,000 marine mammals are killed each year as a result of plastic in our oceans

I think it’s safe to say, things need to change.

You can begin eliminating plastic from your life today.

Living by example is the best way to reduce plastic pollution. Once you start sharing your eco friendly journey with friends and family, you’ll notice your actions get others thinking about their own plastic waste.

So be sure to share your journey, letting people know which alternative products you use, as well as sharing articles like this. As more and more people become aware of and join the eco friendly movement, we’ll start to see things change for the better.

To help you with your transition away from the plague of plastic products, I have put together what I believe is the ultimate list of eco friendly products, that you can buy today to help stop plastic pollution.

A little cliche, but this is how we change the world.

Have a browse through the list and decide which products you’d like to switch out to get started with your eco friendly journey.

  1. I’m curious as to why you throw out sandwich bags ‘just a few hours’ after making your sandwiches? I wash, dry, & reuse mine over and over, throwing them out only when they’re no longer fit for purpose. Once I’ve used them all up I’ll move to beeswax wraps, but I’m not going to waste what I already have.

    Laura Shapland
    1. Hi Laura,

I use the stainless steel lunch boxes and beeswax wraps to store food at home and also for my lunches at the office. I was just referring to how in a lot of cases they are used simply to store a sandwich until lunch time, only to be thrown away shortly after.

It’s great to hear that you wash and reuse the ones you already have, good idea! Completely agree that you should make the most out the items you already have. Keep up the good work 🙂

  2. Any suggestions what to use as bin bags?

    1. Hi Susan,

There are compostable bin bags available to purchase online, we will hopefully stock these in the near future.

In an ideal world you wouldn’t need bin bags if you truly lived plastic-free. You could compost leftover food, recycle glass, metal and cardboard (some of our skincare comes in biodegradable packaging which you can compost). But I understand that this is extremely difficult at this time where plastic is everywhere, so I think it is more important to just try and reduce the amount of plastic and waste where possible.

If you have plastic bin liners, then focus on making them last by not filling them so quickly with plastic waste and by choosing compostable, biodegradable and recyclable where you can. Reusing and up-cycling is a fantastic method to reduce waste too.

      I hope this helps.

      Many thanks

      Charlotte

      1. I stopped using trash bags. Plastic trash bags seem crazy to me. Imagine the amount of forever plastic these bags add to the earth. I just toss my rinsed-off items straight into the bin. No big deal. I no longer buy plastic bags of ANY kind. Maybe plastic bin bags required where you live? Cheers

  3. This is a great post for eco-friendly products. You have covered so many products in this post and it’s really appreciable. I would like to suggest some more products like Biodegradable & compostable Caddy bins, Bin Bags, shopping bags, Fruit/vegetable, travel bed set.

  4. Well done! Fantastic to see what’s now available to help us all reduce using plastic. Such a very comprehensive list. I will certainly try as many of these products as I can, whilst first using up and recycling all the plastic items I already have. I will definitely be sharing this brilliant list !

  5. Hi,
It seems as though darker skin tones get ignored when developing sustainable products. Do you know of anywhere that is more inclusive in its range?

    1. Hi

Thank you for getting in touch.

May I ask what range of products is it you are looking for? Was it makeup and beauty?

      Many thanks

      Charlotte

  6. This is really exciting, please add me to your mailing list.

  7. I haven’t used bin liners for a long time. I wrap food waste in newspaper and put in the food bin and all peelings and compostibles go in the compost. It leaves me with non messy waste so the bin stays clean. If you are concerned line the bin with newspaper , I think you’ll find that’s what our grandparents did. Great that the tide is changing

    1. Excellent!! I do the same thing! Zero plastic bags of ANY kind. Now our food scraps are required to go into the yard waste “green” bin where it all gets composted where folks can then purchase it for their gardens. Brilliant.

  8. I use boxes when I shop similar don’t buy fresh food packaged and just put fruit and veg in a bag I already have they just get weighed at the till. I buy large containers of yogurt then dispense it into little jars for my lunch box then only have one pot to recycle (my husband usually uses them for p!ant pots) food where I work has to be put in a bag when opened and these cannot be reused so I keep them and reuse them over and over at home. We all need to do it, encourage others I am trying to change things at work as much as I can.

    Annie Pollard
  9. Great eco sourcebut any chance of eco washing-up gloves?

    1. Hi Susan, we sell reusable biodegradable gloves on our website. You can find them here https://www.peacewiththewild.co.uk/product/if-you-care-natural-rubber-gloves/

  10. Is there a liquid hand wash available? I think several people using a bar of soap is unhygienic, and I’m trying a dish wash soap which I have to say is not easy to get used to.

    Audrey Duffy
    1. Hi Audrey, you can find our hand wash in a glass bottle if you follow this linK! https://www.peacewiththewild.co.uk/product/green-mint-lemongrass-hand-wash-275ml/

  11. This is great, I have spent the lockdown time going more plastic free and eco friendly at home. I now have all reusable shopping bags, I use 1 cleaning product all around the house, which is allergy approved and eco friendly so no more plastic bottles of various product, I use a menstrual cup and Reusable face pads now too, and ive just bought an eco egg for my washing! Next step kitchen utensils and bin liners 🙂 keep up the good work- its good to see more companies selling environmentally friendly product!

  12. Hi there i live the list I was just wondering, I couldn’t see it, but what about milk bottles and all e food waste stuff people need help with this too.
Also a lot of the bamboo stuff are they made with rayon?
    Kind regards
    Cherece

    1. Hi Cherece, it’s always good to research what options are available local to you. For example, we have a milk delivery, the milk arrives in glass bottles and once we have used the bottles we leave them outside for them to be collected and reused. You can also do this with fruit & veg deliveries so that you don’t have to buy veg bought in plastic! With regards to food waste, if it is available to compost, we would always recommend to start your own compost for food waste or see if there is a compost local to you that you could take them to! Our bamboo products are not made with rayon!
