How To Use
Wait until after you’ve showered or apply a hot towel to your face/area that you want to shave before to soften skin.
The first thing you need to do, is soak your shaving brush in warm water for 30 seconds. You can put it in a container of warm water (like a mug or) or fill your sink with warm water and soak the brush in that.
Soften the soap by puting a little warm water (say, a tablespoon’s worth) on the surface of the shaving soap and let it soak for 10 or 15 minutes.
Pour off the excess water. Lots of people will put the warm water on the soap just before entering the shower.
Squeeze the excess water out of your shaving brush. If you have too much water in the brush, it’ll make for thin, frothy, lather. Not enough water and it will be hard to develop lather at all.
Load the brush, you do this by gently swirling the brush around on the surface of the soap for a minute or two — until you notice a good creamy lather start to form. You alternate the swirl direction (between clockwise and counter-clockwise) every few moments to help work the lather into the brush’s bristles.
Paint your wet face with the lather using the shaving brush. You can use back-and-forth strokes, up-and-down strokes, swirly strokes, or a combination.
Safety razors can take some getting used to and there is a technique to it, this can take time but you’ll get it soon enough. All you need to do while you are getting used to it choose when to shave carefully, as in don’t try this the morning of a job interview or in a hurry.
So pull the skin taut in the opposite direction of the blade, and hold the razor at about thirty degree angle. Remember not to apply any pressure, and use short, even strokes, going with the grain of your hair.
Replacing the Blades
You’ll know it’s time to toss a blade when it starts to tug or pull on the first couples of strokes. But remember you can use both side of the razor. Depending on your beard/hair thickness, that could be every other day or once a week.
To change the blades hold the razor head with one hand and then twist handle counter clockwise.
Remove the bottom plate from the razor head and then drop the blade on top of the pegs.
Then place the bottom plate back over the blade, hold the top and bottom of the head together, insert handle back into the head and then twist clockwise.
Plastic Free Shaving
When I first started my plastic free journey, I wasn’t sure how I was going to shave!, there are obviously other methods for hair removal but they can be extremely painful and sometimes work out pretty expensive!
Then I found out about the safety razor, an endlessly reusable razor where you just replace the blades which are just made out of recyclable metal NO plastic whatsoever!
So although it may seem scary using a safety razor at first it really isn’t as bad as you think. You soon get used to using it and you get such a close shave all without any waste and plastic. The benefits are huge when you shave plastic free, I don’t want to even think about the amount of razors I have used that have ended up in a landfill, they will still be there even the razors I used when I first started shaving! The important thing is that I have now switched to a much healthier, eco-friendly and sustainable method of shaving that is much better for both me and the planet.
I would recommend investing in a safety razor to anyone who wants to reduce waste and unnecessary plastic or starting zero waste living! These will last you a lifetime rather than ending up as waste or pollution.
Mutiny Shaving was created as a rebellion against the corporate Goliath’s currently dominating the shaving industry. These big companies charge extortionate prices for over designed razors that you don’t need and are non recyclable. Huge amounts of these razors will ultimately end up in a landfill, adding to our waste problem.
Mutiny provide eco-friendly alternatives so that others can join them in rejecting disposable plastic razors and instead support artisan shaving companies. Many commercial shaving foams and creams contain harmful chemicals such as methyl propane, Propolene glycol (also used in antifreeze and brake fluid), Triethanolamine, and Sodium Laurel Sulphate to name only a few. These dry your skin out as well as having potentially much more serious side effects. Mutiny instead put natural put limonene in their soap which comes from orange peel.
As an Ecofriendly, vegan company, their aim is to never use animal based products, never use plastic in their packaging, use recyclable products and donate a percentage of their profit to various environmental organisations to ensure they are a zero-carbon company.
Mutiny believe that the Mutiny Shaving experience provides an outstanding shave which is better for your skin, better for your wallet and most importantly, better for the planet.
Providing a super-close shaving experience that produces zero plastic waste, is eco & vegan friendly, cruelty free, contains no harmful chemicals and is at a lower cost to both you and the planet is priority for Mutiny.
