Top Tips

Tip 1: Until you feel 100% comfortable with your menstrual cup, you can of course wear a panty liner so you don’t have to worry about leaking.

Tip 2: We are all different and we have different positioned cervix. The menstrual cup should be placed below the cervix, if not, it will most likely leak. Try to locate your cervix with your finger, you should feel for a slightly firmer area of tissue and position your cup under it.

Tip 3: If you can feel the stem and find it uncomfortable after a couple of tries, you can cut it shorter. However, do not trim the stem while the menstrual cup is inserted! Also cut a little bit at a time and check to make sure you don’t cut it too short.

Tip 4: We recommend you practice inserting and removing your cup before you get your period, it allows you to get a feel for what is comfortable before hand.

Tip 5: You can use water or a water-based lubricant to make insertion easier.

How To Use

Before using your OrganiCup for the first time you should sterilize the cup in boiling water for 3-5 minutes. Remember not to let the cup touch the bottom of the pan.

With clean hands, simply fold the soft menstrual cup and insert. The cup will unfold inside the vagina, creating a light vacuum, securing it in place.

You can leave your cup between 8-12 hours before removing.

Then you just rinse and repeat.

It may take a few days or a couple of periods to get used to wearing a menstrual cup.

Inserting

First of all, wash your hands with warm soapy water.

Fold your menstrual cup in half using the c-fold – simply fold the cup in half, as you fold one side over the other it looks like a C.

or

Fold your cup using the punch-down fold – push the bottom of the cup inwards and then fold the top sides together, pinch the bottom to hold in place while inserting.

Relax – finding a comfortable position and relaxing makes inserting the menstrual cup much easier. Some people lay down or squat, other sit on the toilet or stand, you will find which works best for you.

Insert the folded menstrual cup, once the entire cup (including the stem), remove your fingers and let it pop open.

You may hear a ‘pop’ sound or suction sound, meaning the cup has unfolded completely, creating the necessary suction seal.

If you are unsure if it has unfolded correctly or created the suction seal, then gently grip the base (not the stem) and rotate it, allowing it to unfold.

The menstrual cup should be placed lower in the vaginal canal compared to tampons.

The stem should also be completely inside, however if the stem pokes out of you then simply trim the stem to fit (not while inserted).

Removing

Wash your hands with warm soapy water. Find a comfortable position and relax.

Pull gently on the stem, while pushing down using your abdominal muscles until you can reach the base. Give the base a little pinch to release the suction and ease it out gently. Avoid pulling out just using the stem as this can cause discomfort.

Once removed, empty the cup down the toilet or sink and rinse the cup with water. If you are in a public bathroom or one without clean water, you can use toilet paper to wipe it out and use water to clean it at a later time.

You can then re-insert or if your period has ended you can boil the menstrual cup for 3-5 minutes to sterilize.
