Most of you probably own several plastic hairbrushes and combs but did you ever stop to think that maybe, just maybe they aren’t so great for the environment? Whilst plastic combs and brushes are widely available and affordable, this doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t be looking for an alternative.
The average human can go through as many as 120 plastic brushes and combs in a lifetime and all parts of it including bristles, cover, and handle end up in the environment around us. Plastic takes up to thousands of years to breakdown but first turns into microplastics that poison our waterways, oceans, and wildlife. Switching these plastic out for products made of natural materials such as bamboo and wood is a much better alternative. Not only do they last significantly longer but they are fully biodegradable and haven’t been made using harmful chemicals, oils, and other commercial ingredients.
Did you also know that stiff, plastic bristle brushes and combs are not good for your hair? They can easily rip and break your strands of hair and they can also result in high levels of static which, let’s face it, is not a good look. Plastic combs and brushes can also encourage dandruff, pull out too much hair, and even encourage greasiness.
At Peace With The Wild, we thought it was important to address this often overlooked product that we often buy and think little of discarding after a year or so. That’s why we stock a range of bamboo and wooden hair brushes and combs that we have selected for their quality and eco-friendliness. With bristles made of natural rubber, sustainable wood and bamboo these products are vegan, responsibly sourced, completely biodegradable, and best of all, plastic free.
If you have taken steps to be plastic free in other areas of your life, there is absolutely no reason why replacing your hair brushes and combs shouldn’t be next on your list!
