FAQS

What do I do with the poo?

We get asked this almost every day and we hate to break it to you but there is no avoiding the poo whether you use disposable or reusable nappies. The good news is you’ll soon get used to it! To easily get rid of the poo from the nappy just use a simple little nappy liner.

Before putting the nappy on, pop a liner into the nappy and when change time comes around just lift the liner out of the nappy and flush (or compost if you prefer).  Job done!

Can I use them from birth?

Yes, definitely. For early or teeny babies you can use the Teenyfits, the size 1 PeeNut or size 1 Bamboozle Stretch. For average sized babies 8lbs plus go straight into the Easyfits, size 2 PeeNuts or the size 2 Bamboozle Stretch.

Are they difficult to wash?

Actually, no and it doesn’t take that much time either! Our nappies can be machine washed at 60 degrees (or lower if you like) with any non-bio washing powder. Don’t use liquid detergent though as it can coat the fabric and limit the nappy’s performance. We do have our own antibacterial washing powder, Potion, that gets your nappies hygienically clean at 30 degrees. We also advise against using fabric softener as it reduces their absorbency.

Do they need to be soaked before washing?

Not normally. In line with our advice, most parents dry pail their nappies and only soak in water if they are very stained. Sunshine and drying outdoors on the line works wonder for stains.

Can they be tumbled?

Yes, TotsBots nappies can be tumble dried on the cool setting, unlike many other brands which can’t be tumble dried, or washed above 40 degrees without damaging the waterproof layer.

How many will I need?

You will need 20 all in one nappies if you plan to wash daily, 25 if you want to wash every second day. If you use a two-part system like the Bamboozle, in addition to your 20/25 nappies you will need 4 waterproof wraps to use over the top. These come in size 1 and size 2.

How often will I need to change the nappies?

As often as you would have to change a disposable. Newborn babies tend to poop pretty frequently especially if they are breastfed and they can need their nappy changed around 8-10 times per day. Once babies get to 8 weeks or so they usually drop to needing changed around 5 times a day thankfully!

Do I need to use a barrier cream?

Not really, it’s down to personal preference. If you do decide to use one we recommend you use fleece liners to keep it off of the nappies. We also recommend you choose a natural based cream that will dissolve in detergent. Other creams can build up in the nappies/fleece liners which can be difficult to get off and can cause absorption problems.

With the two part nappies, can I reuse the cover over the next pad/nappy?

Yes you can. The wrap has a wipe clean interior specifically for this purpose.

These look bigger, will they be comfortable?

Disposables have only been around since the 70’s and before then every baby wore cloth with no adverse effect of discomfort, plus babies have super soft bamboo fabric next to their skin. In fact, when toddling, cloth is best as it gives a nice padded landing.

Should I wash the nappies before use?

Yes, they will need up to 8 washes before getting up to full absorbency. Just pop them in with your normal laundry, (white with white, colour with colours) no need to dry in between. You can use them after first wash if you can’t wait.
