Organic sweet almond oil, jojoba and shea butter give this foundation a deep moisturising effect that nourishes dry skin, as well as organic silica contained in bamboo.

Although Zao isn’t completely plastic free, their silk foundation is natural and comes in a glass bottle, it is also vegan and cruelty free, making a much healthier, sustainable and eco-friendly alternative to purchasing an entirely plastic foundation tube. As a brand they are continually trying to reduce plastic packaging and are hoping to eradicate it in the future.

As with all Zao products, this is free from talc and parabens (synthetic preservatives), instead Zao use micronised silver as an effective and non-toxic preservative. Zao does not use nanoparticles in their products, with the micronised silver being larger than nanoparticle size, making Zao products safe and free from man made toxic chemical preservatives.

If colours like gold, copper, bronze, orange-reds and earthy tones suit you, then your skin is likely to have peach, yellow or golden undertones and so would suit a warm-toned foundation.

If colours like magenta, silver, grey, blue-red or jewel tones suit you, then your skin is likely to have cool undertones with pink, red or blue undertones. This would suit a cool-toned or neutral foundation. If you prefer to disguise pink tones to your skin, then a neutral-toned foundation would help you achieve that.

If you look good in any of these colours, then your skin is likely to have neutral/mixed undertones. If unsure, check the veins on your arms, as those with cool-toned complexions have blue or purple veins, whilst those with warm complexions tend to have green veins, and if you cannot decide, then you most likely have neutral undertones.

Packaging

This foundation comes in a glass bottle with a reusable plastic pump and bamboo lid.

Currently the pump is plastic ZAO are always working towards reducing their plastic which is why it is great to support this brand.

Especially easy to apply thanks to its light texture, ZAO silk foundation is best applied with a natural sponge but just as easily with your fingers.

Use a small amount at first and then build up to the amount of coverage you are after. A little goes a long way.

Beauty Tip:

Select a colour that matches your skin tone on the face and neck without being too bright or too dark.

Find your skin tone and take into account whether you have warm, cool or neutral undertones to find your best match. Apply the foundation from the centre to the outside of your face, then blend into the neck area.
