Deliciously sweet apples with a splash of cider. Perfect with a Ploughman’s salad or cheeseboard. Rubies have teamed up with Virgin Trains to make this delicious apple chutney made apples from Virgin West Coast trains that would have gone to waste.

Partnered with Virgin Trains to create this bespoke chutney as part of a shared commitment to sustainability. For this chutney Rubies have take the apples from on-board the Virgin Trains that are a smidge too bruised after a day of travel to be sold. They then add their unique blend of seasonings and turn it into a delicious chutney.

Each week Rubies collect approximately 1,300 apples that would be thrown away from the train’s catering service and then turn them into a delicious chutney that is featured on the first-class menu.

Together they have saved over 137,000 apples which would otherwise have gone to waste. This makes a carbon saving of 6,000 kg of CO2E which is the equivalent of 158 train journeys from London to Edinburgh.

Once opened, store in the fridge and consume within 8 weeks.
