As the blades are embedded into the plastic razor head, it is almost impossible to be recycled appropriately. It often ends its journey burned or buried into the environment, left to rust over the years.

Luckily, durable and sustainable alternatives exist.

Traditional safety razors are an effective swap for plastic-free shaving. Double edge safety razors were widely used before the mass production of single-use razors. Major shaving companies, with only profit in mind, forgot the traditional razor in favour of mass consumption.

Still, a double edge razor is now the best alternative to cartridge razors for men and women alike.

Safety razors use one single blade made from stainless steel. Thus, the safety razor blades are easily recyclable. How often the blades need to be replaced depends on shave frequency and hair type, this can vary from a few weeks to months. Safety razor blades are therefore economical.

Recycling Razor Blades

When it comes time to replace the blade in your safety razor, simply remove it from the razor head and pop it into a blade bank.

Once you have filled your blade bank, it can either be dropped off at your local recycling center or put into a metal recycling bin.
