Silk Fluid Foundation from ZAO is blended with naturally occurring, eco-friendly, vegan ingredients that work together to form the perfect mix of fluid foundation that evens out different complexions, whilst also letting all kinds of skin types breath. This is possible due to its velvety textures being easy to apply with ingredients that have all been validated as organic by Ecocert.

This silk foundation comes with it's very own reusable, luxury cotton drawstring travel pouch. Perfect for on-the-go, as its convenient size can be kept in your day-to-day bag or makeup pouch!

Although Zao isn’t completely plastic free, their silk foundation is natural and comes in a glass bottle, it is also vegan and cruelty free, making a much healthier, sustainable and eco-friendly alternative to purchasing an entirely plastic foundation tube. As a brand they are continually trying to reduce plastic packaging and are hoping to eradicate it in the future.

As with all Zao products, this is free from talc and parabens (synthetic preservatives), instead Zao use micronised silver as an effective and non-toxic preservative. Zao does not use nanoparticles in their products, with the micronised silver being larger than nanoparticle size, making Zao products safe and free from man made toxic chemical preservatives.

Key Ingredients:

Organic Bamboo Hydrolate -  Made by distilling bamboo leaves, this purifying ingredient mattifies acne-prone skin through its moisturizing and soothing qualities

Natural Bamboo Powder - Extracted from the joints of bamboo, this ingredient remineralizers, hydrates and plays a part in speeding up the process of skin cell regeneration, as well as reducing the shine associated with mixed and oily skin

Organic Aloe Vera - Popular for it's softening and calming virtues, this ingredient helps with even the most fragile of skins, as well as compensating for skin water losses

Magnolia bark extract - Native to Asia, this medicinal plant is identified through its antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, soothing and antioxidant properties which all help to reduce redness and aging of the skin.

Shade Matching:

• 811 suits very fair complexions with neutral undertones. This shade can be used to tone down pink undertones! (similar to 711 from ZAO's old range)
• 812 suits very fair complexions with a yellow undertone that they wish to balance. Especially suited to very fair Asian complexions or to lift super fair sallow skin (similar to 711 from ZAO's old range)
• 814 suits fair complexions with neutral undertones (similar to 701 from ZAO's old range)
• 815 suits medium complexions with warm undertones (similar to 702 from ZAO's old range)
• 816 suits medium complexions with neutral undertones (similar to 713 from ZAO's old range)
• 817 suits medium complexions with neutral undertones (similar to 713 from ZAO's old range)
• 818 suits those with medium complexions and yellow/golden undertones (similar to 714 from ZAO'S old range)
• 819 suits those with medium complexions and yellow/golden undertones (similar to 714 from ZAO'S old range)
• 820  suits medium complexions with neutral undertones (similar to 704 from ZAO's old range)

If colours like gold, copper, bronze, orange-reds and earthy tones suit you, then your skin is likely to have peach, yellow or golden undertones and so would suit a warm-toned foundation.

If colours like magenta, silver, grey, blue-red or jewel tones suit you, then your skin is likely to have cool undertones with pink, red or blue undertones. This would suit a cool-toned or neutral foundation. If you prefer to disguise pink tones to your skin, then a neutral-toned foundation would help you achieve that.

If you look good in any of these colours, then your skin is likely to have neutral/mixed undertones. If unsure, check the veins on your arms, as those with cool-toned complexions have blue or purple veins, whilst those with warm complexions tend to have green veins, and if you cannot decide, then you most likely have neutral undertones.

Packaging

This foundation comes in a glass bottle with a reusable plastic pump and bamboo lid.

Although the pump is plastic, ZAO's mission is to work towards reducing plastic, which is why it is great to support this brand and help them on their journey of producing sustainable makeup!

First, apply one of Zao's foundation primer products (750) to prepare the skin.

Place a dab of Silk Foundation on the back of your hand, warm the material with your fingertips, then apply in small strokes all over the face.

For a natural result, smooth the material from the inside to the outside with the 711 Foundation Brush or the Blender Sponge and in circular motions with the 714 Duo Fibre Foundation Brush.
