Masks are a great way to take care of your skin as well as to relax and unwind at the end of a long day. When it comes to putting products on your skin, especially for an extended period of time like with masks, it is advisable to keep the ingredients as natural as possible. Here are some of our favourite ingredients for natural masks.

Clay

There are two types of clay you should be using in your skincare products and these are bentonite clay and kaolin clay. Bentonite clay is a well-known treatment for skin conditions such as dermatitis and eczema as well as other conditions that make the skin dry. Helpful for acne, it is also a great detoxifier that draws out excess oil, grime, build-up and other particles, whilst reducing inflammation and thoroughly moisturising. Kaolin has a number of healing properties and is also good for reducing oily skin. A natural exfoliator it is also efficient at toning skin and tightening pores. Mild enough to be used every day, you can use it as a cleanser or as a mask for a treat, several times a week.

Honey

Raw honey has been used on skin for thousands of years. A natural antibacterial, it helps to balance bacteria on the skin which makes it great for acne, whiteheads and other similar complaints. It also helps to speed up the skin’s ability to repair itself and it is also known for its properties in terms of soothing eczema and dry patches. Honey is also an antiseptic, antioxidant and pore tightener and never, ever goes out of date.

Chamomile 

Chamomile is a wonderful ingredient for any skincare product as it possesses a whole host of anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, antibacterial, antiseptic, and antioxidant properties. When used in a cleansing product or mask, it helps to decongest blocked pores fight acne. Full of flavonoids and antioxidants, it is highly effective in protecting your skin against free radicals that are known to increase the signs of aging. 

Echinacea

When you apply echinacea, or a product containing echinacea to the skin, the compounds present in it work to prevent and fight acne, treat inflammation flare ups, and reduce wrinkles. Echinacea is full of tannins which tighten pores, leading to firm, taut-looking skin with less fine lines.
